Dr. Sara Lavinia Brair is the Director of the Health Office in Africa Relief and Reconstruction Initiative (ARRI).
Sara Lavinia Brair, Senior Country Representative, TCC-Sudan. Dr. Sara Lavinia Brair has an extensive background in health care management, policy, and public health. She served as the Director General of the White Nile State and Acting Minister of Health for 2 years during the transitional government in Sudan and sat on many political reform committees. Before joining the Carter Center, she worked as the Health System Strengthening Advisor at USAID and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. In the academia, she served as the Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research at Al Neelain University, and during this period she advocated for e-learning and established the first online Diploma in the country in collaboration with Maryland University. She served on many committees at the Federal Ministry of Health related to epidemic mitigation and promotion of immunization and ethics. She participated in the establishment of the Sudanese Network for Research Ethics and participated in the addition of research ethics curricula to medical schools in Sudan. She cofounded two organizations that help the needy and empower women educationally and economically.
She was awarded the Sian Griffiths Global Public Health Award from the Royal College of Physicians in 2022 for her unique contribution in promoting Global Public Health. She was also awarded the Best Female Doctor Award in 2018, Al Neelain University Student Union.

(Honors) in Food Science and Technology from Ahfad University for Women.Throughout her career, Huda has served as Principal of Aljawda International School in Cairo, where she successfully led policy implementation, teacher development, and student-centered learning strategies. She has also held positions as High School Head and IGCSE Coordinator, as well as a teacher of biology, chemistry, and environmental studies across several international schools. Her leadership has been recognized for improving academic outcomes, promoting inclusive education, and building strong collaborations with staff, parents, and students.In addition to her work in education, Huda has contributed significantly to public health and nutrition initiatives, including her service as a Dietitian at Police Central Hospital and as a Nutrition Officer supporting children of female prisoners in Omdurman. Amel Farouk Abu-Eissa is a distinguished professional and public advocate known for her deep commitment to women’s empowerment, humanitarian engagement, and human rights in Sudan and across the region. She brings a unique blend of diplomatic insight, social awareness, and creative vision to her leadership of the Public Relations Office at the Africa Relief & Reconstruction Initiative (ARRI). Amel studied Economics, Political Science, and Sociology at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and holds a Double Major in Interior Design from the American College in London. Her academic foundation combines social sciences and creative design thinking skills that have shaped her multidimensional career. Earlier in her professional journey, Amel worked with UNICEF in Cairo, where she contributed to community development and advocacy programs. She has also established herself as a freelance interior designer, delivering elegant and human-centered design solutions in Egypt. A lifelong advocate for Sudanese causes, Amel continues the legacy of her father, the late Mr. Farouk Abu-Eissa, Sudan’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and a prominent political leader who dedicated his life to justice, democracy, and human rights. From her close involvement in his work, Amel inherited not only experience and values but also a deep understanding of Sudan’s social and political fabric. Today, Amel stands as a powerful voice for women, youth, and the marginalized, using her platform at ARRI to strengthen the organization’s visibility, build international partnerships, and promote Sudan’s path toward recovery, peace, and inclusive development.
